Godollo
4:54 AM
Just back from the UK this afternoon. Utterly exhausted, was too tired to gush about my trip, but popped my clothes into the laundry and hopped straight into bed. Woke up in the evening, got some dinner and am now looking through the pictures. But nope, not going to blog about my trip yet. But tomorrow... sorry guys, heaps of pictures, I'll really have to sift through them and decide how I should blog about it. However, I will talk about this small town outside Budapest which I visited with Aimee last friday (the day before I left for London).
The town is called Godollo, only like 40 mins away from Budapest city. Return ticket is about 600 forints by the HEV, so it's a pretty cheap trip. The reason why I wanted to come here is because I wanted to visit the summer palace that Empress SISI ( of the Habsburgs) used frequently when she was alive and holidaying in Hungary. We learnt about this palace during our trip to Vienna. Sisi was very supportive of Hungary and was a strong influence in the Austrian-Hungary treaty in the 19th century. The palace itself is quite beautiful. There were many features inside that reminded us of the palaces in Vienna. The only issue I kept commenting on was the colour of the palace... pink and white... very strawberry ice cream-ish.... The castle grounds are quite big, but unfortunately there is not much to see unlike the palaces in Vienna, so we finished it within the hour. There is not really much to see in the town and so this trip can be done in half a day. Of course we ate lunch here as well, and food is a bit cheaper... (200 forints for a piece of cake!!!!!)
Outside the palace before heading in: you can already notice the pink and white decor..
The interior scheme carries on inside
Taking a walk outside the palace grounds to the viewing pavillion... too bad you can't go in... it's all locked up and dusty inside..
The back of the castle. Apparently in spring/summer, concerts are held during the evenings..in the palace grounds
Tourist gimmick: dress up as a european from the 19th c and take pics...
Heh, sorry I couldn't resist... carrying on the cake tasting campaign around Europe... 200 forints for a piece of cake!!! imagine that!
